One of the Jets’ newest additions will not see the field this season. Testing has confirmed that safety Chuck Clark has a season-ending torn ACL, according to multiple reports. Clark suffered the injury at practice on June 13.
Gang Green acquired the 28-year-old safety in March in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens for a 2024 seventh-round pick.
Clark was expected to get significant time along with fellow safety Jordan Whitehead — who signed a two-year, $14 million deal last offseason — as he started every game for the Ravens since 2020. The veteran has been incredibly durable throughout his career as he only missed one game throughout his entire career due to an injury.
Clark has five interceptions, 3.5 sacks and 384 combined tackles in his six-year career.
The safety has one-year and $4.14 million remaining on his contract opening up the possibility that he never steps on the field for Gang Green.
The Jets quickly pivoted to signing free agent safety Adrian Amos to a one-year, $4 million deal. Amos, another former Packer, spent the last four seasons in Green Bay as their starting safety.
The 30-year-old registered 102 combined tackles last season while hauling in one interception. Prior to his time with the Packers, Amos spent four years with the Bears making 56 starts during his four seasons in Chicago.
