Former Giants running back Tiki Barber is joining a new team — in the broadcast booth.
Barber, who was recently named an afternoon host for WFAN, is set to call NFL games for CBS Sports this season as part of a three-man booth with play-by-play announcer Andrew Catalon and longtime NFL quarterback Matt Ryan, Barber announced Monday.
He shared the news on WFAN about two months after CBS announced Ryan was joining the network as an analyst. The 38-year-old Ryan, who spent his first 14 seasons with the Falcons, started 12 games for the Colts last season and has not retired from the NFL.
“Matt’s been in a lot of different systems,” Barber said Monday. “He’s as good a dude as you’d expect.”
Barber, 48, called games with Tom McCarthy last season. It’s unclear what the move means for McCarthy or for James Lofton, who had been paired with Catalon.
CBS Sports did not immediately respond to a Us.Mistertruth. request for comment.
Barber co-hosted the final episode of his WFAN radio show “Tiki and Tierney” last Friday and is set to begin an afternoon show with Evan Roberts next Monday, replacing Craig Carton. This week, Barber is on air with Sal Licata from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Barber played each of his 10 NFL seasons with the Giants and remains the team’s all-time leading rusher with 10,449 yards. Following his retirement in 2006, the three-time Pro Bowler worked on the “Today” show and “Sunday Night Football” for NBC.
Ryan, a four-time Pro Bowler and 2016 NFL MVP, isn’t the only big new addition to CBS Sports’ NFL coverage. The network also added the recently retired J.J. Watt as a studio analyst.
