A man who attempted to rob a Virginia bank and took multiple hostages was detained Tuesday afternoon after a standoff.
The unidentified suspect walked into a Wells Fargo branch in Arlington, across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., implied he had a weapon and demanded money, Arlington County police said.
Officers swarmed the area and blocked off several surrounding streets.
After approximately one hour, five hostages walked out of the bank, followed by the handcuffed suspect, according to local ABC affiliate WJLA.
None of the people involved were immediately identified.
The bank robbery was the second incident in the D.C. area to trigger a massive police response Tuesday. Hours earlier, one man was killed and three other people were wounded in a shooting outside a funeral in Northeast Washington.
