Cops hauled a man in for questioning in the wake of a slashing that sent a 37-year-old man to the hospital and left a Manhattan subway platform drenched in blood Monday, according to police and witnesses.
“There was blood everywhere,” a transit worker told the Us.Mistertruth. “It was crazy.”
The victim was lounging on a wooden bench on the downtown platform at the 86th St. station along the Lexington Ave. line in the Upper East Side before the attack at 4:25 p.m., according to police.
The transit worker said the victim could be heard arguing with another commuter moments before the slashing.
“There were two guys arguing and one pulled a knife on the other,” the employee told the Us.Mistertruth
Their dispute came to a head when the irate straphanger drew a blade and slashed the victim on the neck, according to police.
A newsstand operator caught a glimpse of the victim as medics wheeled him into the ambulance.
“When they brought him upstairs, he was soaking in his own blood,” said Ibrahim Asmal, 53, who’s worked his 86th St. newsstand since 1995.
“This is like a jungle out here. Nobody’s safe,” added Asmal, who noted that the wound appeared to be on left side of the victim’s neck.
Paramedics rushed the man to Cornell Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, cops said.
Police took a person of interest in for questioning. No charges have been filed.
