A Brookwood High School student was arrested Wednesday afternoon after bringing a firearm to the school, according to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 2:15 p.m., a Brookwood High School faculty member told a Tuscaloosa County sheriff’s deputy who was working as a school resource officer that the student was suspected of having a firearm.
The deputy made contact with the student and confirmed that the student was in possession of a firearm, a news release from Deputy Sheriff Jessica McDaniel states. The student was arrested and the case was forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division.
Because of the student’s status as a juvenile, the student’s name and the charges against the student will not be released, according to McDaniel.
The Tuscaloosa County School System linked the following message from the superintendent on the Brookwood High School website’s home page:
“This afternoon, Brookwood High School implemented lockdown procedures, after administrators received information that a student had a firearm on campus. The student and weapon were quickly secured. Law enforcement is involved in the investigation. All students are safe, and no one was injured. Normal dismissal procedures are underway. We will contact families when we have more information to share.”
