A body was recovered Thursday from the Harlem River, with investigators fearing it could be a Bronx boy who went missing with his middle school buddy last week, according to police sources.
Cops brought the body to shore after it was spotted floating in the river near the Madison Avenue Bridge at about 10 a.m., a police source said.
Investigators believe the body could be 13-year-old Warren Garrett, who was last seen with his middle school pal, 11-year-old Alfa Barrie, at the Anas Fish Market at E. 145th St. and Lenox Ave. in Harlem last Friday night, the source said.
The NYPD had no immediate info about the body, a spokesperson said.
“They haven’t been able to identify it yet. We are waiting for the medical examiner’s office,” Alfa’s uncle Ahmadou Diablo said of the body. “We are not going to consider anything until then. We are hoping for the best.”
Cops believe the two classmates ran away from home together.
They attend Democracy Prep Harlem Middle School together, with family members describing them as best friends.
“He didn’t give us a call like he usually does,” Alfa’s sister, Fatima Diallo, 22, previously said of her little brother. “So we knew something was up.”
Alfa’s family reported him missing Sunday morning. Warren’s parents reported their son missing the next day at about 3 p.m.
On Tuesday, the NYPD released photos of the young boys, asking for the public’s help to find them.
A photo of Alfa shows him sporting a white hat, a matching floral bowtie and vest and pink pants.
Warren was pictured wearing a tan knit cap and a black T-shirt with a teddy bear on it that said “Heart Breaker.”
Cops described Warren as 6 feet tall and 215 pounds. Alfa was described as 5-foot-2 and 100 pounds.
