A Geneva man has been arrested in connection with the September death of a young boy in his care, according to Geneva police.
Jarrid Bailey Mix, 23, was charged last week with first-degree manslaughter and second-degree manslaughter, both felonies, in connection with the death of a 2-year-old boy on Sept. 8, 2022. Mix is accused of causing severe internal injuries to the boy’s torso and abdominal area, said Matthew Colton, a detective lieutenant with the Geneva Police Department. Mix was allegedly alone while he was caring for the boy, according to police.
The boy was taken to Geneva General Hospital on Sept. 8 for treatment and was transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital for emergency surgery, Colton said. The boy died that same day from his injuries, he said.
The arrest followed a six-month-long investigation by Geneva police. Other agencies were involved in the investigation, including the Ontario County’s Child Protective Services and District Attorney’s Office, the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Child Advocacy Center of the Finger Lakes.
Mix is currently in custody at the Ontario County Jail. Details on his arraignment in Ontario County Court were not available.
