CHICO – One teenager was was killed and five others were injured in a shooting at a house party in Chico early Saturday morning, Chico police said.
The shooting in the 1000 block of Columbus Avenue was the culmination of two earlier incidents where officers were called to incidents of fighting and brandishing firearms, police said.
A 17-year-old female died in the shooting, police officials said in a press conference early Saturday. Five other shooting victims were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
One person was arrested in connection to the incidents, police said.
The series of events began to unfold at different locations in Chico at about 12:30 a.m. after a fight broke out when a suspect was asked to leave a house party in the 700 block of W. 7th Street in Chico.
Several shots were fired during the incident, but no one was struck, police said. Two others at the party were assaulted. One was struck in the head with a gun and the other was hit over the head with a bottle, police said.
Both victims were taken to the hospital and were in stable condition with “non-life-threatening injuries,” police said.
Then at about 3 a.m. police were called to another party in the 1000 block of Columbus Avenue when they were told someone arrived at the event and brandished a gun.
While officers were investigating the second incident, officers located a suspect who matched the description of the person wanted in the earlier assault, police said.
They arrested the suspect on suspicion of possessing a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm. His identity was not disclosed by police.
Then at 3:30 a.m., police were called back to the residence on Columbus Avenue after receiving a report that several people had been shot.

A 21-year-old male who was admitted into an area hospital and listed in stable condition with non life threatening injuries.
A 20-year-old male discharged from the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A 19-year-old male admitted into an area hospital listed in stable condition with a non-life-threatening injury.
An 18-year-old discharged from their hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
17 year-old-female admitted into an era hospital and listed in stable condition with a non-life-threatening injury.
“At this point, it appears this isolated incident does not appear to be an ongoing threat,” police said. No one has been arrested in connection to the shooting. Police said they continue to investigate the case and ask anyone with information to call 530-897-5820.So far this year, there have been 196 mass shootings reported across the United States, with 15 of the incidents occurring in California, the Gun Violence Archive nonprofit research group reported on May 6.
