A Chicago police officer was cut by a knife-wielding man as the officer attempted to stop an apparent burglary, according to police.
Officers responded to a call about a man attempting to take items from inside a home on the 6100 block of S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. at 12:18 p.m. Sunday. The man inside the building then approached the officers with a knife, the Chicago Police Department said in a statement.
“One officer sustained small cuts to the left forearm, bicep, and head,” the department wrote.
The officer was transported to a hospital and is in good condition, police said.
The man, who police identified as Orange Lofton, 56, was charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor for attacking a police officer and using a deadly weapon.
The attack occurred a day after CPD Officer Areanah Preston, 24, was shot and killed in Avalon Park early Saturday morning shortly after leaving the police station.
