The driver of a stolen Volkswagen crashed into a tractor-trailer after fleeing an NYPD car stop in the Bronx, leaving him in critical condition, police said Wednesday.
The 33-year-old accused car thief was rushed to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition with severe head injuries.
The NYPD said Yonkers police notified them at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday the driver they were pursuing has crossed over into the Bronx. The NYPD about nine minutes later tried to pull the SUV over at Brook and Bergen Aves. in Melrose but driver refused to stop.
A short time later the speeding driver wiped out on E. 149th St. near Oak Point Ave. in Hunts Point, crashing into a tractor-trailer and becoming wedged underneath it. He was taken into police custody and hospitalized.
As cops were looking for the fleeing driver, an NYPD cop involved in the response crashed his marked patrol car into a 27-year-old scooter rider at Brook Ave. and E 138th St., video obtained by the Daily News shows.
The scooter rider tumbled into the roadway and was taken to Lincoln Hospital with minor injuries, cops said.

The scooter rider was issued a summons by cops for a moving violation, police said.
The stolen car is owned by a 51-year-old woman, police said.
