A 60-year-old ex-con stabbed a man to death during a clash inside the suspect’s Upper West Side apartment building, police said Thursday.
Cops responding to a report of an assault in progress ran into Michael Perkins exiting the building on W. 97th St. near Riverside Drive with a bloody knife still in his hand about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, police sources said.
After taking Perkins into custody, cops found the victim sprawled out in a building stairwell suffering from multiple stab wounds to the chest and face. Medics rushed him to Mount Sinai Morningside but he could not be saved.
Cops are trying to determine the identity of the victim, who was not carrying ID.
Perkins is charged with murder, assault and weapons possession.
He has a long criminal history dating back to 1986, police sources said. He’s done three stints in prison on robbery and attempted robbery convictions.
His last prison stint was in 2017, when he did six months for an attempted robbery conviction in Brooklyn, court records show.
