A skateboarder was shot in the leg after crashing into a BMW in Queens, sparking a fight with the driver and passenger, police said Wednesday.
The 25-year-old victim was nearing 39th Place and 47th Ave. in Sunnyside when he collided with a BMW sedan about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, cops said.
The small impact sparked a big argument between the skateboarder and the two men in the BMW.
As the quarrel escalated, the BMW passenger whipped out a gun and opened fire, blasting the skateboarder once in the leg, cops said.
“The guys in the car chased down the skateboarder before shooting him,” neighborhood resident Paul Velastegui, 44, told the Us.MistertruthWednesday. “(People) are overreacting over things that are not major in nature. We need to calm down a bit.”
Medics took the victim to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was expected to recover.
Neighbor Bhati Hanuman, 66, recalled hearing a single gunshot.
“I have been living here for 35 years but have never seen any such case of violence,” he said. “We just heard the sound of a shot and within five to 10 minutes the police were here.”
The shooter and his accomplice sped off in the BMW and have not been caught.
