A security guard leveled excited Canadian golfer Adam Hadwin as he celebrated his countryman Nick Taylor’s historic victory at the Canadian Open.
Taylor became the first Canadian to win his nation’s biggest golf tournament Sunday. It’s been 69 years since a Canadian golfer accomplished that feat, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
After the final hole was complete, fellow Canuck Hadwin dashed onto the green spraying champagne as he ran toward Taylor and his excited caddy.
While that pair didn’t seem to see Hadwin coming to join their celebration, an eagle-eyed security guard spotted him approaching quickly and sprung into action, decking the British Columbian player with the entire North American golf world watching
Multiple cameras captured the textbook tackle that sent the 35-year-old golfer straight to the ground.
Fortunately Hadwin, who finished 12th in the competition, was uninjured, according to his wife.
“I’m thrilled to report that @ahadwingolf is still among the land of the living and in true Canadian form,” Jessica Hadwin tweeted. “(He) apologized to the security guard for being tackled.”
She continued remarking on the many angles from which her husband’s sacking was caught on film.
“So many things to take in with every new POV,” she tweeted.
Taylor and his caddy briefly paused their celebration as Hadwin and his tackler laid on the ground. Along with other security guards, Taylor’s caddy ran toward the confusion to resolve the matter.
Hadwin and Taylor, also 35, hail from Abbotsford, B.C. The latter’s victory was worth $1.62 million. The Golf Channel said Hadwin took home $178,650 for his troubles. The Canadian Open works in conjunction with the PGA Tour.
