A man was charged with attempted murder Tuesday night after village police said he stabbed a woman.
Village of Liberty police said they responded to a report of an injured woman on North Main Street at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday.
When police officers arrived, they found a woman with multiple cuts and puncture wounds.
The woman, who was not identified, was flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where she was treated for multiple injuries.
Police said they located a suspect on Lincoln Place within minutes of beginning their investigation. After a short foot chase, officers apprehended the suspect, Jesse Rubio, 24, of Liberty.
According to police, their investigation found that Rubio had stabbed the woman multiple times with a knife, which they later recovered. Police said Rubio also stole a phone from the woman, and tried to dispose of evidence before he was apprehended.
Police did not say what the motive was for the stabbing.
Rubio was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence, all felonies.
Rubio was arraigned in Town of Liberty Court and sent without bail to Sullivan County Jail, pending further court action. The court said an attorney had not been assigned to him yet.
