Police on Tuesday were searching for a man who reportedly assaulted a 6-year-old girl when she answered a knock at the door of her Portland home, police said.
At 6:39 a.m., Portland Police received a call for a reported assault on Monroe Court.
An adult confronted the intruder, who quickly fled the home, police said. Out of an abundance of caution, the victim was taken to Maine Medical Center where she was evaluated and released.
The Portland Police Department is looking for a white male in his 40s or 50s. He was said to be wearing a red and black long-sleeved checkered shirt and a black and white hat. The suspect also had gray beard scruff on his chin. He was last seen fleeing from Monroe Court towards Anderson Street early Tuesday morning and may be riding on a bicycle.
Investigators are urging anyone with any information to call them at 207-874-8575.
