John Gotti III has been suspended from competing in Florida for six months after setting off a brawl when his exhibition boxing match with Floyd Mayweather ended in disqualification.
The Florida State Athletic Commission suspended Gotti III on Sunday night after the in-ring melee started in the middle of the sixth round and members of both fighters’ camps tussled. TMZ Sports first reported the suspension.
Referee Kenny Bayless called off the fight, which had several chippy moments between Gotti III, 30, and Mayweather, 46.
But when Gotti ran around the referee and tried to keep fighting Mayweather, several others jumped into the ring. However, the chaotic brawl was quickly broken up.
In a series of Instagram Story posts, the fighting between the two entourages continued backstage. According to BBC News, the arena was cleared by police who threatened to arrest anyone who did not leave.
Another short video on his Story showed Gotti, with a bruised right eye, giving the middle finger to the camera and calling Mayweather a “punk.”
According to TMZ Sports, Gotti III and Mayweather “ended up hashing things out once cooler heads prevailed” and may fight again at a future date. In the meantime, Gotti III has called on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to reverse his suspension.
Several fights occurred outside the ring on Sunday as well, including one between reality stars Joseline Hernandez and Big Lex.
