A car that was reported stolen overnight was towed out of the Passaic River Wednesday morning, according to Paterson Deputy fire Chief William Bucher.
The Chevy Cruze was spotted by a passerby in a neighboring park, who saw the roof of the car sticking out of the water. It was reported stolen between 2 and 3 a.m. but how it ended up in the river remains a mystery, Bucher said.
Authorities currently do not know how long the car was in the river, where it had accumulated about 5 feet of water.
No individuals were found to be inside the vehicle after it was towed out of the river.
The car is currently impounded and there are no leads on who stole the vehicle.
