The Geauga County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a recent telephone scam.
According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, there is a male by the name of “Sgt. Moody” calling residents from phone number 440-467-5454. The man is telling people that they have warrants.
According to the post, “Sgt. Moody’s” voicemail is also claiming to be from the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office. He then tells them that unless they pay a certain amount of money they will be arrested.
The department stressed this is a scam. The post states the sheriff’s office does not have any employees with the last name of Moody and it never asks for payment in gift cards.
The department urges residents not to give personal information out and do not pay with gift cards to anyone they do not know.
