As Taylor Swift continues her blockbuster Eras Tour, a new report delves into her reported split from longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
Swift and Alywn, who reportedly broke up weeks ago, “weren’t the right fit for one another” and split because of “differences in their personalities,” a source close to the couple told People.
The couple’s relationship first made headlines in 2017, while Swift was working on her album “Reputation” and Alwyn was coming off his starring role in the film “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.”
“They had plenty in common and fell in love in a safe bubble while she was retreating from the world during ‘Reputation,’” the source added. “Then the pandemic hit, and they were locked down together and able to continue growing their relationship in this insulated way. But he didn’t really ‘know’ her yet outside of that bubble.”
And it seems like life outside of that bubble was hard for the English actor, who told Elle UK a year ago that he is guarded about his personal life.
“Joe has struggled with Taylor’s level of fame and the attention from the public,” the People source said. “The differences in their personalities have also become harder to ignore after years together. They’ve grown apart.”
Swift may have given fans a hint about relationship trouble at her Eras Tour concerts in Arlington, Texas, between March 31 and April 2, when she swapped out the romantic song “Invisible String” in favor of “The 1,” a song about lost love.
The singer also wore a shirt reading “We Are Never Getting Back Together Like Ever” — a reference to a 2012 song of hers — at her March 31 concert, per Elle.
And at her concert in Glendale, Ariz., earlier in March, Swift appeared to get emotional while singing the bridge of “Champagne Problems,” a ballad she wrote with Alwyn. The song is about a woman who turns down her college sweetheart’s marriage proposal.
