Though it seems like “Everything Has Changed” for Taylor Swift’s love life, that’s not a song fans heard at her concert in Tampa, Fla., on Thursday night.
In another setlist change — and another probable reference to her reported split from Joe Alwyn — the sold-out crowd in Tampa heard “Holy Ground” play during a transition when past Eras Tour concertgoers heard “Everything Has Changed,” as Rolling Stone reports.
Both songs come from Swift’s 2012 album, “Red,” as well as its 2021 re-recording, “Red (Taylor’s Version).” But while the lyrics of “Everything Has Changed” paint a picture of new lovers getting acquainted, “Holy Ground” dwells on a lost love.
“The song ‘Holy Ground’ was a song that I wrote about the feeling I got after years had gone by and I finally appreciated a past relationship for what it was, rather than being bitter about what it didn’t end up being,” Swift said in a video interview about the album.
“I was sitting there thinking about it after I had just seen him, and I was just like, ‘You know what? That was good. It was good having that in my life,’” she added.
Swift also may have alluded to her split from the English actor on Thursday night when she asked the Raymond James Stadium crowd, “Is it just me or do we have a lot of things to catch up on?”
Entertainment Tonight first reported on Saturday that Swift and Alwyn had ended their six-year relationship. Days prior, Swift swapped out “Invisible String” for the less-romantic “The 1″ at her Eras Tour concerts in Arlington, Va., and started wearing a shirt reading “We Are Never Getting Back Together Like Ever.”
In more upbeat news, Swift also dropped hints at Thursday’s concert that “Speak Now,” her 2010 studio album, was the next album she’ll re-record. For example, she wore a yellow dress onstage similar to one she’s seen wearing on the album’s back cover.
“I’ve been thinking a lot about one of my albums recently,” she said during the show. “One of my albums has been on my mind a lot. I’ve been thinking about it, lots of thoughts going on in my brain about it.”
She then announced she’d play the title track from that album, and she launched into a rendition of “Speak Now.”
