The history-making Powerball winner is wasting no time balling big time.
While details remain scant about the record-setting jackpot winner, real estate records show he has opulent taste.
A California man identified as Edwin Castro, who came forward last month to claim the $2 billion prize, has plunked down a small part of his fortune on palatial digs way up in the Hollywood Hills.
Sales records, cited by the Los Angeles Times, show that Castro spent $25.5 million on a five-story, modern-style mansion boasting five bedrooms, six bathrooms and amenities such as a gym, movie theater, wine cellar and game room.
But the 13,578-square-foot property purchase also comes with bragging rights. Dirt reports that his nearest neighbors include late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel, actress Dakota Johnson and pop superstar Ariana Grande.
Castro did not show up to the Feb. 14 press conference in Sacramento announcing his winning ticket, which matched all five winning numbers and the Powerball number. He purchased the ticket at a Los Angeles-area gas station in November.
California Lottery officials have not released Castro’s age, occupation or address, claiming he wanted to remain private.
He did, however, make a brief statement, saying, “I am shocked and ecstatic to have won the Powerball drawing.”
Castro’s purchase of the newly built home makes a small dent in his overall winnings, amounting to less than 3% of his gross winnings.
Lotto officials said Castro chose to receive the lump sum payment option of $997.6 million from the $2.04 billion jackpot, which set a global record in November after 41 consecutive drawings without a winner.
