Sarah Ferguson had a wild night out for her “hen party” before marrying ex-husband Prince Andrew.
The Duchess of York said on Tuesday’s episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” that she and the late Princess Diana ended up arrested for impersonating police officers that night.
“It was extraordinary, because we went to a nightclub. Of course you go to a nightclub with the Princess of Wales — and I was just still Fergie, wasn’t married yet,” Ferguson told host Kelly Clarkson, recalling the 1986 outing.
“We went into this nightclub, and she was very good as her costume,” Ferguson continued. “So we sat down, and the waiter came up to us and said, ‘Excuse me, this is a member’s club, and it’s for fun. And we don’t serve police officers here.’”
Ferguson hammered home the point that the waiter believed she and Diana were real officers, and kicked them out of the club.
As they were leaving, Ferguson said they spotted a lady getting out of a cab, who was wearing a dress Diana also owned. Fergie recounted Diana breaking cop character, shouting, ‘She’s got my dress on!’”
“I said, ‘Dutch!’ I called her Dutch. I said, ‘Dutch, no! No, no, you can’t say that. We’re meant to be police officers.’”
Funnily enough, the actual police intervened.
“We were then arrested. We were arrested by Parks Police, right? So we got in the back of the van. And she had put her engagement ring ‘round the other way, and I’d put mine ‘round the other way,” Ferguson said of their attempt to conceal their identities.
“We’re sitting in [the van] and [Diana] just looked around and saw a [bag of] smoky-bacon flavored crisp[s] and started taking them and eating them,” Fergie revealed. “And the policeman in the front said, ‘You can’t do that!’ And then, eventually… they realized that it was, you know, Diana and me.”
Ferguson said she and Diana “got into trouble a lot” and shared other fun anecdotes about her onetime sister-in-law. However, she said she doesn’t miss Diana — who died in 1997 at the age of 36 — because she still feels her presence strongly today.
“I’m with her [and] she’s with me all day,” she explained. “She’s the only one who really… she and I, we laughed a lot.”
