Seventeen years later, the stars are apparently still blind.
Paris Hilton has released a new version of her 2006 track “Stars Are Blind” and brought on Kim Petras as a featured performer.
“So excited to share that my new version of ‘Stars Are Blind’ featuring my sis and dear friend @KimPetras is now available on all streaming platforms!” Hilton wrote on Instagram and Twitter Friday as she hyped up “Stars Are Blind (Paris’ Version).”
The original “Stars Are Blind” was Hilton’s lead single from her debut album, “Paris.” The song reached No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, and now, with help from Petras, the song might start charting again.
Petras received praise from Hilton when she performed “Stars Are Blind” for a Stonewall Gives Back Initiative livestream in April 2020. “This was so beautiful it made me cry,” Hilton tweeted at the time, sharing a video of Petras’ cover.
The German pop star sang “Stars Are Blind” again at Hilton’s November 2021 wedding to Carter Reum.
“Ever since Kim sang this song at my wedding, I just knew we needed to record an official version with her,” Hilton explained in her social post on Friday.
And Hilton’s friendship with Petras goes back even further: The socialite appeared in the 2017 music video for Petras’ debut single, “I Don’t Want It All.” In so doing, Hilton gave a boost to Petras’ career long before “Unholy,” Petras’ collaboration with Sam Smith, made the singer the first out trans woman to win the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
“[Hilton] has just been such a supportive person for me,” Petras told In the Know last year. “I mean, that music video that she’s in? I didn’t really have a budget [to book her], so her agreeing to be in it was amazing. … And ever since then she has just kind of been a little bit of a fairy godmother to me.”
