Port Huron Assistant Police Chief Brian Kerrigan said a person is in custody as an investigation into the death of a man inside a 17th Street home continues.
Police found a man dead inside a home in the 1300 block of 17th Street about 7:45 a.m. Sunday. Kerrigan said the man was a 26-year-old St. Clair County resident.
The man was discovered after police were called to the location about 1:45 a.m. for a possible assault or disturbance possibly involving a firearm. Officers received information two people had fled the house and there was a potential subject armed inside.
Kerrigan said the department’s special response, crisis negotiation and criminal investigation teams were called to the scene. Residents in the area were told to stay inside.
He said after several hours of trying to communicate with the person they entered the home and found the man dead.
He said police are treating it as a “suspicious death.”
Kerrigan said the people who fled the home had been located and were cooperating and one is a person of interest in the investigation and in the county jail. He said he could not give more details about the person or the relation to the deceased man.
The cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy.
The Michigan State Police Crime Lab assisted in the investigation.
Further details have not been released.
