The cause of death for Lance Reddick, a beloved actor best known for his roles in HBO’s “The Wire” and the “John Wick” movie franchise, has been revealed.
According to a death certificate, obtained by TMZ on Thursday, Reddick died of ischemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. It also shows that the actor wanted to be cremated.
Ischemia is a condition in which “blood flow (and thus oxygen) is restricted or reduced in a part of the body,” according to the American Heart Association. Arteriosclerosis, meanwhile, manifests when “blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients from the heart to the rest of the body become thick and stiff,” cutting off blood flow to the organs and tissues, per the Mayo Clinic.
The subsequent clots can also cause a heart attack or stroke.
Reddick was found dead in his Los Angeles home on March 17. He was 60 years old.
In a statement at the time, Reddick’s rep said he died “suddenly” from “natural causes.”
“He is survived by his wife Stephanie Reddick and children Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick,” the statement continued. “Lance will be greatly missed. Please respect his family’s privacy at this time.”
The following day, the actor’s wife thanks friends and fans for the outpouring of love their family received in the wake of Reddick’s death.
“Thank you for all your overwhelming love, support and beautiful stories shared on these platforms over the last day,” Stephanie wrote on her husband’s social media pages. “I see your messages and can’t begin to express how grateful I am to have them.”
The actor’s death came amid the press tour for “John Wick: Chapter 4,” which was released in theaters on March 23. Director Chad Stahelski said Reddick “made every one of these [movies] better because of his presence.”
