Ezra Miller made their first high-profile appearance in nearly two years, walking the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of “The Flash.”
Miller, who’s nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns, spoke briefly to fans and industry insiders during a surprise appearance on Monday at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
The 30-year-old star of the superhero movie joined the film’s cast and crew — including actor Ben Affleck and director Andy Muschietti — to introduce the much-anticipated DC Studios summer release. They used their brief red-carpet time to thank Muschietti, studio executives, “our irresistible dream cast” and “the thousands of workers and artists” who worked on the film.
Miller also thanked “everybody who supported us in our lives and in the world, and everybody who supported me in my life and in the world along this decade-long trying and very beautiful peregrination.”
Early in January, the embattled actor pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of unlawful trespass from a break-in incident at a Vermont home in May 2022.
The New Jersey-born actor was charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and petty larceny. Authorities accused them of illegally entering a home in Stamford, Vt. on May 1, 2022, and taking several bottles of alcohol.
At the time, Miller told police they had permission from the homeowner to pick up cooking ingredients for their mother. However, the owner denied any permission had been granted.
The “Fantastic Beasts” actor was also arrested in Hawaii — twice — early last year. They were charged in March 2022 with disorderly conduct and harassment.
In August they attributed their run-ins with the law to mental health issues, adding they’d sought professional help.
“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller said in a public apology.
After pleading guilty to the charge of unlawful trespass in January, Miller said through their lawyer they wanted to “acknowledge the love and support they have received from their family and friends, who continue to be a vital presence in their ongoing mental health.”
