Blink-182 postponed the start of its reunion tour after drummer Travis Barker suffered a finger injury requiring surgery, singer Tom DeLonge announced Wednesday.
The punk rock band now plans to begin the world tour on May 4 in St. Paul, Minn., after originally scheduling concerts in Mexico and Latin America for March and April.
“These are some of the most important places in the world for a band,” DeLonge said in an Instagram video. “This is, like, the pinnacle of our career, coming down and playing for you guys. I really want you all to know we are devastated.”
Blink-182 plans to reschedule the concerts in 2024, DeLonge said.
Barker initially referenced an injury in a Feb. 8 tweet, writing, “I was playing the drums at rehearsals yesterday and I smashed my finger so hard I dislocated it and tore the ligaments.”
On Tuesday, Barker shared an Instagram video showing his swollen finger and wrote he was getting surgery, which DeLonge referred to in his announcement.
“Travis needs to go in and have surgery on his finger,” DeLonge said. “We have to get that well and we have to get that strong before we can do anything else. This is just so sad.”
The tour will reunite Barker and bassist Mark Hoppus with DeLonge, who left Blink-182 in 2015.
Known for hits such as “All the Small Things” and “Adam’s Song,” the band is scheduled to perform at Madison Square Garden on May 19, UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y., on May 20 and the Barclays Center on May 24.
Barker married reality star Kourtney Kardashian last year. She shared a series of praying-hands and heart emojis in the comments section of his Instagram post Tuesday.
