Dunkin’ recruited one of its celebrity superfans — and his famous wife — for a Super Bowl ad that debuted during the big game on Sunday night. And now the coffee shop chain has released the outtakes, showing even more hilarious interactions between Ben Affleck and the patrons of a Dunkin’ location in Medford, MA.
In the original spot, drive-thru customers are astonished to see that it’s a Hollywood star who’s taking their order — except, of course, for the one guy who says Affleck doesn’t look familiar.
And at the end of that 30-second commercial, Jennifer Lopez pulls up to the window to ask her husband about his side hustle. “What are you doing here?” she says. “Is this what you do when you say you’re going to work all day?”
“You’re embarrassing me in front of my friends,” Affleck mutters.
Later on Sunday night, Dunkin’ released a minute-long outtake reel, showing more of the actor’s shenanigans. “Aw, we’re out of, uh, coffee,” he tells one customer. “Yeah, we got no coffee and no donuts.”
“What do you got?” the bemused customer asks.
“Uh… wa-tuh,” Affleck responds, in his Boston accent.
The outtakes also show the Oscar winner struggling with the register and spilling a coffee cup in a customer’s car. “I’m trying to compensate with comedy for my ineptitude,” he says at one point.
Dunkin’ also released alternate versions of the ad, including one where Affleck tries to get a woman to add sweetener to her black tea order.
“You could choose to have no sweetness in your life or some joy,” the actor reasons. “What would you like, ma’am? Joy or misery?”
In response, the woman says that “joy’s good” but still rebuffs Affleck’s offer of Splenda or Equal.
“You’re insisting on darkness,” Affleck says, resignedly.
The Super Bowl ad comes just a month after paparazzi spotted Affleck and Lopez filming the commercial in Medford. The “Tender Bar” star — who grew up alongside Matt Damon in nearby Cambridge, MA — previously told Collider that he has Dunkin’ coffee “every day.”
