Rihanna will perform her single “Lift Me Up,” which was featured in the movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” at this year’s Oscars.
The song, which was written specifically for the Marvel movie, is also nominated for the 2023 Academy Award for Best Original Song.
It’s the first guest announcement this year from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization that puts on the annual awards ceremony.
Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, this year’s event will air Sunday, March 12, and be broadcast live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
Rihanna’s performance comes exactly one month after her halftime concert at Super Bowl LVII, where she revealed she was pregnant with her second child. Her performance at the big game received mixed reviews, but she officially became the first woman with a baby bump to headline the show.
The singer did not perform “Lift Me Up” or “Born Again,” her other original song recorded for the film, at the Super Bowl.
“Lift Me Up” is nominated for Best Original Song alongside Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick,” David Byrne and Mitski’s “This Is a Life” from “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” Diane Warren’s “Applause” from “Tell It like a Woman,” and “Naatu Naatu” from “RRR,” with music by M.M. Keeravaani and lyrics by Chandrabose.
Rihanna composed “Lift Me Up,” along with Tems, director Ryan Coogler, and producer Ludwig Göransson.
