Alexa Bliss, a 31-year-old WWE wrestling star, has revealed she was diagnosed with skin cancer.
The 2016 Smackdown Women’s Champion took to Instagram Wednesday to open up about how she received the diagnosis after getting a spot checked on the side of her face that appeared to have “gotten worse.”
Bliss shared an image to her Instagram Story with a bandage on the side of her face, People reported.
“Dear younger me, you should have stayed out of tanning beds,” she wrote, while also reassuring followers that the cancer is “all clear now though!”
Bliss further engaged with concerned fans on Twitter, encouraging them to get their skin checked, especially if they spend significant time in the sun or use tanning beds.
As Bliss explained: “There was a spot on my face … that had gotten worse. So went to get biopsy. Was basal cell carcinoma. During my procedure doc also found other squamous cells. Was a quick and easy procedure. Glad I always get my skin checked.”
Basal cell carcinoma is “thought to be caused by long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight,” according to The Mayo Clinic. It’s the most common and frequently occurring form of skin cancer.
Bliss, who was unmasked Wednesday night on “The Masked Singer,” thanked fans and the American Skin Institute, who offered her “great care.”
