A hostage situation that turned into a standoff on Saturday morning has ended with a suspect being shot by police.
DeKalb Police Chief Mirtha Ramos confirmed during a news conference on Channel 2 Action News at Noon that the suspect is in critical condition at the hospital. The suspect has not been identified.
Ramos says just after 3:30 a.m., a teenager who lived in a home on Cragstone Court off of Covington Hwy. called 911 and said someone in the house was being held against their will.
When officers arrived, they found an armed man holding a woman against her will inside the home.
SWAT officers responded to the scene at 5:30 a.m. after officers were not able to get the man out of the home.
Channel 2′s Christian Jennings was on the scene during Channel 2 Action News Saturday AM where she saw a large police presence including several bomb squad trucks, K9 units and SWAT.
Eventually, the woman was able to leave the home of her own free will, but the suspect stayed barricaded inside.
At some point during an hours-long standoff, the suspect fired shots inside the home, striking a pipe and causing a leak inside.
The suspect eventually pointed a weapon at an officer. The officer then fired back, striking the suspect.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Police were unable to confirm the exact relationship between the two people in the home.
The officer is being placed on administrative leave as the GBI investigates.
