Two people were injured in a daytime shooting outside Brockton District Court on Monday afternoon, police said.
Police responded to a report of a shooting near the George N. Covett Courthouse, near the corner of Main and Crescent streets, about 12:30 p.m.
“Preliminary investigations indicate the shooting resulted in injuries to two victims, one female with non-life threatening injuries and one male victim whose condition is currently being assessed,” Brockton police spokesperson Darren Duarte said. “Two people are in police custody, and a gun has been recovered.”
Police say a stay-in-place order was issued following the incident for people who live or work in the immediate area, including for Brockton City Hall, the Brockton Public Schools Central building, the Brockton Board of Health building and the War Memorial Building.
“The stay-in-place was done out of an abundance of caution and has now been lifted,” Duarte said.
Police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
“This incident appears to be an isolated event, and we are diligently working to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” Duarte said.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Brockton police detectives at 508-941-0234.
