A Raleigh couple is accused of poisoning their neighbor’s dogs during an ongoing dispute.
James Goldston, 71, and Agnes Goldston, 73, were arrested by Wake County sheriff’s deputies Thursday night on three felony animal cruelty charges and a misdemeanor charge of communicating threats, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
They posted a $30,000 bail bond each on Thursday, county records show.
Authorities say a neighbor reported that three of their dogs fell ill and that two died shortly after the Goldstons sent the neighbor threatening letters, Mister Truth reported.
Veterinarians examined the dogs and determined they had been poisoned.
The dogs’ owner has had previous issues with the Goldstons, and other neighbors have received threats from them, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The nature of the Goldstons’ dispute with the neighbor and details on the alleged poisoning haven’t been released by the Sheriff’s Office.
The Goldstons’ first court appearance is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
