A Stamford police officer was injured and a New York teen with a handgun was arrested after a fight broke out at a McDonald’s restaurant on Friday afternoon, police said.
It all started when two Stamford officers directing traffic on an extra duty job in front of 25 Bedford Street were alerted by McDonald’s employees to an active fight inside the restaurant, according to the Stamford Police Department.
Officers went to the restaurant and found several people arguing and fighting, police said. Additional officers were dispatched to the scene to assist.
Several officers chased a man believed to be in possession of a handgun into the parking lot, according to police.
During the foot chase, the suspect, later identified as Clarence Wiley, 18, of Bloomingburg, New York, entered his parked car and fled, police said. Officers chased the vehicle on foot as drove onto Broad Street “at a high rate of speed,” according to police.
Wiley struck an officer who was on foot and then struck another occupied vehicle in the lot, police said. He eventually crashed into a fence where his vehicle became disabled.
Officers took Wiley into custody and located a handgun in his waistband, police said.
Wiley is charged with illegal possession of a firearm without a permit, weapons in a motor vehicle, criminal attempt at first-degree assault, assault on a police officer, interfering with police, evading a motor vehicle collision and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
He was being held in lieu of a $150,000 bond.
A Stamford police officer was injured in the incident. He was treated for his injuries and released, police said, noting also there were no injuries to the occupants of the car that Wiley struck.
