An Uber Eats driver was killed and dismembered by a man after delivering his last meal last of the day to the assailant’s house in Pasco County, Fla., authorities said Tuesday.
The suspect, 30-year-old Oscar Adrian Solis, was arrested Tuesday and faces a first-degree murder charge and other offenses.
Authorities say the victim arrived at Solis’ home in Holiday, outside Tampa, just before 7 p.m. on April 19 “to drop off food ordered by Solis’s father for Solis.” The victim, who has not been named, had just dropped off his wife at home before heading to Holiday for his last delivery of the night.
Home surveillance video shows the driver arriving at the suspect’s residence, then being pulled into his home as Solis attempts to rob him.
Investigators say Sollis killed the delivery driver, then “attempted to conceal the victim’s remains” — which were found on trash bags around the suspect’s home.
“This was a horrific crime of passion,” Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said at a news conference Tuesday. “This was demonic. What he did was demonic.”
Solis, who’s affiliated with the violent MS-13 gang, had arrived in Florida from Indiana around three months ago. It appears he did not know the victim.
“All that appears is there was a gentleman who was working, he was doing his last delivery for the night, and this person killed him — for no reason,” Nocco said.
According to the sheriff’s office, Solis has a long criminal history in Indiana. He was released from an Indiana prison in January, where he had spent the past four years for an assault and burglary conviction. Prior to April 19′s murder, he had no criminal history in Florida.
Police are still looking for two young people who were seen in security footage leaving Solis’ home about an hour after the homicide.
Last month, the New York Police Department arrested two members of a Queens-based gang accused of kidnapping and beating an Uber driver in October.
