A fourth suspect was arrested in connection to a mass shooting at a 16th birthday party that left four people dead.
Johnny Letron Brown, 20, was taken into custody Thursday. He and three other suspects are being held while officials continue investigating Saturday night’s shooting spree in Dadeville, Ala.
Teenage brothers Travis McCullough, 16, and Ty Reik McCullough, 17, were arrested Tuesday, while Wilson LaMar Hill Jr., 20, was taken into custody Wednesday. They are all expected to be tried as adults.
A quartet of victims — ranging in age from 17 to 23 — were killed when gunfire erupted around 10:30 p.m. in a dance studio hosting the bash. More than 30 people were believed to have been shot during the chaos. What sparked the violence remains unclear.
“Dadeville is a small town and this is going to affect everybody in this area,” Dadeville police chaplain Ben Hayes said after the shooting.
Among the fatalities was 18-year-old Philstavious Dowdell, whose sister was the birthday girl. Dowdell planned to join Jacksonville State University’s football team as a wide receiver in the fall.
According to Gun Violence archive, the Sweet 16 shooting was the nation’s most deadly since an April 10 hail of bullets left five people dead in a Louisville, Ky., bank. The Alabama shooting was equaled Tuesday when four people were shot dead in Bowdoin, Maine.
