Police arrested a man after two people were stabbed downtown late Thursday. The attack was racially motivated, according to court documents.
Officers were called to the area of Sixth Avenue and Smithfield just before 11 p.m. for reports of an assault.
They found a male victim with a deep cut to his left arm. Officers applied a tourniquet and medics transported him to a hospital in serious but stable condition.
A second male with a stab wound to the leg was treated by medics before being transported to a hospital in stable condition.
The suspect is described as a white man. The victims are Black.
The suspect did not originally identify himself to police, but police later confirmed his name is Chris Boswell, 37, of New Brighton.
A knife was found at the scene.
Boswell kicked officers, breaking one of their watches, according to the complaint.
Police are requesting the man remain incarcerated until the hearing because they say he’s a threat to the public.
He is facing charges of aggravated assault, ethnic intimidation, criminal mischief and public drunkenness.
