Apr. 11—A stolen vehicle crashed head-on with a Willowick police cruiser sending an officer and two other individuals to the hospital April 11.
According to a post on the Willowick Police Department Facebook page, at approximately 3:30 a.m. officers were alerted by FLOCK camera systems of a stolen vehicle in the area of the Willowick/Eastlake border. A Willowick officer responded and was eastbound on Willowick Drive when the officer located the stolen vehicle driving westbound on Willowick Drive.
According to the post, the stolen vehicle was driving toward the officer’s cruiser at a high rate of speed after fleeing from Eastlake Police. The stolen vehicle allegedly continued recklessly at a high rate of speed and struck the Willowick officer’s cruiser head-on, immediately disabling both vehicles.
According to the post, the driver of the stolen vehicle attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended by the Willowick officer from the damaged cruiser. An injured passenger remained in the stolen vehicle and was later taken into custody.
Both the driver and passenger of the stolen vehicle were taken to the hospital for injuries related to the crash.
According to the post, the Willowick officer was also transported to the hospital in stable condition and has since been released.
Criminal charges are pending.
