A 23-year-old man standing on a Brooklyn sidewalk was fatally struck by a minivan driver spinning out of control in a chain-reaction crash, police said Thursday.
Chaim Blum, 23, was struck by a gray Toyota Sienna minivan as he stood on the sidewalk at 50th St. and 13th Ave. in Borough Park about 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, cops said.
Blum had just reached the corner when the Sienna driver, heading east on 50th St., was struck by a Honda Odyssey minivan driver zipping south on 13th Ave., cops said.
The Sienna was struck on the driver’s side and spun out of control, vaulting the sidewalk, stunned witnesses told police.
Medics rushed Blum with severe head and body injuries to Maimonides Medical Center, where he died.
He was about half a mile from home when struck.
The two minivan drivers, both 27-year-old men, remained at the scene and were not hurt. No charges were immediately filed as cops work to determine who blew the corner stoplight.
About 15 minutes later, a 62-year-old man was fatally struck by a hit-and-run SUV driver in East Harlem, cops said.
Victim Oscar Nieves was crossing Third Ave. at E. 122nd St. when he was hit, cops said.
Cops are looking for the SUV driver, who did not stop.
The victim was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he died.
