A Spencer man who was seriously injured in a head-on crash that killed the other driver in February faces charges following an investigation.
The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division charged Kanishka K. Singh, 32, with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, a felony, and driving while intoxicated with blood alcohol content greater than 0.08%, a misdemeanor.
The charges stem from the investigation of a head-on collision that occurred around 4:30 p.m. Feb. 13 on state Route 96 near East Spencer Road in the Town of Spencer.
Singh was operating a 2014 Audi A4 westbound on Route 96 when his vehicle crossed the centerline of the roadway, entered the eastbound lane and struck a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 43-year-old Daniel J. Kaczynski, of Endicott, investigators said.
Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were transported to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Kaczynski died Feb. 18 as a result of injuries.
Singh was arraigned in Tioga County Centralized Arraignment Part Court by Justice Dawn Olsen and committed to the Tioga County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $50,000 property bond. He was later released after bail was posted for him.
Singh is due to appear before Town Justice Michael Roy in Town of Spencer Court at 4 p.m. April 20 to answer the charges.
New York State Police and the Tioga County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
