A seventh person has been arrested and charged in the disturbing murder and dismemberment of Hong Kong model Abby Choi, police said Tuesday.
The 29-year-old woman was captured in mainland China and handed over Tuesday to police in Hong Kong, according to authorities. A source told the South China Morning Post the suspect was an online influencer.
The woman is accused of helping another suspect in the case and then fleeing to mainland China.
Choi, 28, was a model and influencer with more than 100,000 Instagram followers. She appeared in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, among other fashion magazines. Just before she was killed, she was on the cover of L’Officiel Monaco.
On Feb. 21, she was reported missing in Hong Kong. Days later, authorities found some of her body parts in a rental unit.
Authorities arrested Choi’s ex-husband, Alex Kwong; his brother, Anthony Kwong; and their father, Kwong Kau. All three were charged with murder. Cops said Kwong Kau had rented the unit where Choi’s remains were found.
Choi’s ex-mother-in-law, Jenny Li, was also arrested and charged with lying to police. All four family members remain held without bail.
The three additional people detained in the investigation, including the woman who was arrested Tuesday, have not been identified. Police said all three aided other suspects in the case.
Investigators believe Choi had some kind of financial dispute with her ex-husband’s family, which allegedly led them to plot the vicious murder.
