Police in Ontario County confirmed that officers fatally shot a man in Canandaigua while investigating an incident in East Bloomfield.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s deputies and Canandaigua police officers as were alerted to a “reckless driver type” complaint shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, a brief pursuit led authorities into Canandaigua, where police shot and killed Brandon Zurkan, 31, of Warren, Pennsylvania following a encounter between Zurkin and police
At a news conference Wednesday afternoon, deputies said that four officers (two deputies and two Canandaigua police officers) fired at Zurkan after Zurkan pointed his gun at police. Deputies said they were attempting to deescalate the encounter at the time.
Zurkan was taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No officers or members of the public were injured.
