After a week of searching for the accused shooter, a local teen has been taken into custody for his connection to a homicide that took place within the city last weekend.
Local authorities announced Friday that 17-year-old Lamar Seymour surrendered himself to the Beaver County Sherriff’s Department that morning, ending the search for the teen accused of shooting and killing 15-year-old Dahvea Sparrow on July 8. Police publicly identified Seymour as the suspected shooter Wednesday afternoon, citing video obtained from a nearby residence and eyewitness testimony placing Seymour at the scene.
Investigators said Sparrow was killed after leaving a city house party. He had just returned to Aliquippa after spending several weeks in Ohio with family members. Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier said Wednesday morning that the trip had helped “get him out of a bad circumstance” in the local area.
While traveling home, several people exited a van and confronted Sparrow on the road, beginning an altercation with him on the sidewalk. One of these people, later identified by witnesses as Sparrow, allegedly pulled a gun during the physical altercation and fired twice at Sparrow before the teen fell to the ground. After the homicide, all of the people fled from the area.
Sparrow will begin Interest of Justice hearings on Friday to determine whether the court will be allowed to try him as an adult for these charges.
