A man died from multiple gunshot wounds Wednesday in southeast Fresno, police said.
Officers were alerted to gunfire near Sixth Street and Tulare Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. by ShotSpotter notification software, Lt. Bill Dooley said.
As police rushed to the 3500 block of Iowa Avenue, a 911 caller reported someone had been hit by the gunfire, police said.
Officers arrived to find the victim in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso, police said.
He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center but died a short time later, police said. Homicide detectives went to the scene and have begun their investigation, police said.
The deadly shooting marked the 18th intentional homicide so far this year, according to records. There were 27 at the same time last year.
