A former FBI agent from Queens has been arrested for collecting scores of child porn images and videos found on a laptop under his bed, authorities said Friday.
John Magri, now an attorney, is facing seven years in jail after he was charged with possessing and promoting sexual performance involving children under 6 years old, including one sickening video of a 1-year-old baby girl being raped by an adult, according to court documents.
“The horrific allegations against the defendant are all the more disturbing given that he was someone who had sworn to uphold the law,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said Friday. “The exploitation of children simply will not be tolerated.”
Investigators found the videos and images after executing a search warrant in Magri’s home on Dartmouth St. in Forest Hills on June 21, prosecutors said.
Detectives zeroed in on Magri on May 15 when his computer’s IP address came up in an investigation of a network known for sharing child porn with users, according to court documents.
More than 700 images were recovered from the IP address, including six sexually explicit videos depicting girls age 6 or younger, prosecutors said.
A search warrant turned up multiple computers and hard drives, including a laptop that was found under Magri’s bed and a second laptop found under a bed in a guest bedroom, according to court documents.
Magri was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court and was ordered released without bail. None of the charges were bail-eligible, court officials said.
Attempts to reach his attorney at Queens Defenders were unsuccessful Friday.
He’s expected to answer the charges in court on Aug. 16, prosecutors said.
An email to the FBI about Magri’s career with the Bureau was not immediately returned.
