Three employees of a Virginia hospital have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Irvo Otieno, whom officials say was smothered while in custody, according to an announcement Thursday.
The latest arrests follow those of seven sheriff’s deputies who were previously charged with second-degree murder.
“A key element of that evidence is the surveillance video from Central State Hospital that captures the intake process,” Dinwiddie County Commonwealth’s Attorney Ann Cabell Baskervill said in a statement Thursday, according to the Virginia news station WTVR.
“To maintain the integrity of the criminal justice process at this point, I am not able to publicly release the video.”
