Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a mass shooting that broke out during an Arizona house party over the weekend, which left two people dead and another five wounded.
Jose Lopez, 18, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder and disorderly conduct, while 19-year-old Aden Arviso is facing counts of false reporting and disorderly conduct with a weapon, Yuma police said Tuesday. They were both taken into custody on Monday, after authorities executed a search warrant at a residence in Yuma.
The charges stem from a deadly incident that occurred late Saturday. Police said gunfire erupted around 11 p.m. during a private party and that more than 30 rounds were fired before it finally came to an end. In that time, seven people were shot, two of them fatally.
Those killed were identified only as a 19-year-old man and 20-year-old man.
One the wounded, a 16-year-old boy, was also airlifted to a Phoenix hospital with serious injuries, Yuma police spokesperson Sgt. Lori Franklin said. Another two boys ages 15 and 16 and two men ages 18 and 19 were treated at Yuma Regional Medical Center for injuries not believed to be life-threatening. Their names were not released.
Authorities at this time are still working to determine a motive behind the carnage but do not believe it to be a random act. Police said both suspects were guests at the party where the shooting occurred.
