A woman was taken to a mental health facility in Lake County Saturday morning after she barricaded herself in her bedroom with a knife that she used to injure two police officers, authorities say.
At about 9:20 a.m., officers with the Tavares Police Department showed up to the 1000 block of Magnolia Circle in response to calls about a woman “experiencing a mental health crisis,” said a news release by the department.
Soon, a hostage negotiator for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrived to assist; however, officers were able to “safely secure” the woman, who remained armed, the news release said.
Two officers, as a result, received superficial cuts to their hands. They were treated at the scene before continuing their work shift.
The woman, too, was treated on scene by the Tavares Fire Department and Lake County EMS before being taken to a local mental health facility.
