Rescue workers searched a partially collapsed building in New Haven, Conn. Friday, where they successfully removed survivors from the debris. However many are seriously injured according to early reports.
“@NewHavenFire have successfully removed all victims trapped in the debris of the collapse,” Connecticut Fire Photographers Association tweeted along with photos from the successful extraction shortly before 2 p.m.
That tweet came nearly 20 minutes after firefighters in New Haven, Conn., said they’d removed some people from the collapsed structure, where others remained trapped. What exactly caused the building to collapse is unclear. It’s located on Lafayette Street, according to a local NBC affiliate, which reports six patients with life-threatening injuries were brought to Yale New Haven Hospital.
A seventh person was hurt. A crew of 36 workers was reportedly doing construction on the building at 12:38 p.m., when it partially gave way while concrete was being poured.
The incident comes less than a week after three tenants were reported missing when a building in Davenport, Iowa, collapsed on Sunday. A structural engineer report warned of deteriorating conditions in that structure shortly before it fell.
