Retired boxer Mike Tyson gave possible new insight into friend Jamie Foxx’s “medical complication,” saying he heard the Oscar winner suffered a stroke.
“He’s not feeling well,” Tyson said on “The PBD Podcast” on May 16. “They said stroke. I have no idea what happened to him. … If we don’t know about it by now, they don’t want us to know.”
Tyson also observed that there’s no predicting life-threatening crises: “Hey, listen, we can’t anticipate that next breath. We don’t know when we’re gonna die.”
Foxx’s ailment and his current condition are still unclear. In mid-April, a family statement revealed that the 55-year-old was “on his way to recovery” after experiencing a “medical complication,” with a source telling CNN at the time that he had been hospitalized in Georgia.
On May 3, Foxx — or someone posting on his behalf — wrote on Instagram that he was “feeling blessed” and appreciative of the love that supporters sent his way.
On May 12, his daughter wrote on Instagram that the “Beat Shazam” host had been “out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating” and was even playing pickleball the day prior.
Then on May 16, as Tyson sat down for the podcast interview, CNN reported that Foxx was being treated at a Chicago physical rehabilitation facility specializing in patients with physical impairments as well as brain and spine injuries.
Tyson and Foxx have been friends since the latter was a 21-year-old standup comedian, as Foxx told Screen Rant in 2017. Foxx was even attached to play Tyson in a biopic film in 2014, as Variety reported at the time.
On the podcast last week, Tyson gave an update on that biopic prospect. “Well, it was a possibility,” he said. “I don’t know what’s gonna happen now, but you know, it’s a strong possibility.”
